Today the CSM 7 Delegate Darius III broke the following news in the forums:

This is a public service announcement from the office of Darius III. When I ran for office I only ever made three promises:

Term 1- I promised to suicide gank someone at leats once a week-A promise I kept.

Term1- I promised to keep the reason that the CCP was designed for in the first place-as a check to CCP cheating- relevant; and do my best to never forget WHY we have a CSM.

Term2- To advocate an arena system.

Promise #2 from term 1 is what this public service announcement relates to. I am doing this because I believe that the players have a right to know certain things, and when I discovered that the information I am sharing was no longer covered by the NDA-I took action.

I will likely be banned from Eve for at least a short while as CCP investigates the matter. I can live with this. If I am perma banned-I would like to tell all the players I had interaction with how much fun I had and that the friendships I made in game will forever brighten my thoughts. Eve is a great game-the best game in the history of mankind with some of the brightest minds of generations playing it.

In mid 2012 I was contacted by a leader of one of the largest alliances in the game and he asked me if it was true that CCP was intercepting player communications.

Indeed that was true-CCP intercepted player communications.

This is the only knowledge that I can share with you without breaking the NDA. I apologize that I cannot give more information, but if I did-I would be breaking the NDA. That is something I will never do. I will likely be banned anyway for breaking the NDA but once they investigate-they will find that I did NOT break the NDA or the EULA.Not that that will prevent my banning-even if I followed the rules 100%

If I do not return, please know that my thoughts are with the many friends I met and I will always cherish the good times we had.

Best regards, D3

[Original CSM Delegate Darius EVE-O Post]

As far as I know, this goes beyond the “no big shit since CCP Games (the company) logs everything is written” argument. As much I can recall – and this is me speculating due to the date given by Darius III in his post – this allegation could be linked to an unconfirmed rumor going on during the SoCo war (mid 2012) where even private chat logs had been compromised by a CCP Games linked party. This arrived to me via the Red Orchestra (EN24 russian intel unit). Please notice this SoCo accusation was never confirmed by EN24.

Other than that I cannot imagine to which sort of misconduct Darius III is referring to.

From the replies to the thread, here is the most insightful one:

The term of “intercept” in the context of intelligence means to spy, or interfere/acquire data in an inappropriate manner. In other words, I’m guessing that some parties in a war were connected to some CCP entities and used that connection to acquire logs containing valuable intel.

Far as I’m concerned, given how large CCP is and how some members of CCP have their own interests, it wouldn’t be too far off-base, especially if there isn’t a thorough audit on a regular basis (which would be time-consuming and costly to conduct, thus enabling such misconduct to potentially fly under the radar).

So, whatever happens with this “bomb” by Darius, I’m sure that CCP is going to try to keep it under wraps. Again, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Misconduct has happened in the past, and it’ll happen again in the future. It’s just a matter of how it becomes public knowledge, and whether or not the players will react to it.

- Vin Hellsing

We’ll update this story as more intel arrives.

I always thought it was a given that all communication in game was stored on a database anyway, and likely never actually 'deleted'. Doesn't necessarily mean ccp have an 1000man strong GM army monitoring every pubie's mails for al qaeda references…. But hows this news in anycase?

Ah right… I had a stupid moment… Just realised whats actually being said… logs themselves arnt the problem. Its when those with access to them use them for their own ingame agenda.

TFHQ (TinFoil Hat Quotient) time… sort-of. If (big unsubstantiated IF) CCP read a convo then passed it on to someone in-game outside the convo… that's bad. The details are irrelevant – it opens the door.

In other systems I'd pass this off as people worrying about 'gubmint rays gettin in their hedz'. Mostly company policy (to my understanding) says an employee may have NO interaction with the player base at all outside the direct performance of their duties as a company employee. It's to the point where they are not allowed their own accounts, even if anonymous. CCP is closer to the player base (I think – when I do PI sometimes I wonder…) and there IS some history so…

I guess we'll wait and see.

The fact that you included a quote from Vin Hellsing, the stupidest person to ever play this game, makes this article totally pointless. If you did any research whatsoever you would realize that he is a super noob, who only carebears and thinks that the knowledge he has gained from carebearing gives him the knowledge he needs to comment on everything in Eve.

Why is there a lot of goons coeficient level people reading evenews nowadays? This clearly states, there is a rumor about a war that happened during mid 2012 period, some or a event(s) that happened during that time, involved a CCP employee and some chat logs. There is no need to be a mensa member to get to the conclusion that the post implies that, a CCP employee shared private informacion to a corporation/alliance leader or member.

The Hellsing bit is stupid. Oh look Darius hasn't actually revealed enough information for the accusations to be meaningful or damning and probably just means that CCP monitor chat logs.

But this one guy has speculated that it's much bigger based on no more information. Lets post that in our news article

What he is probably (not) saying is that a member of CCP provided logs of conversations to his friends. These logs were from an organization that his friends were at war with. I for one do not find this information a revelation as the degree of professionalism at CCP is virtually nonexistent.

CCP has a long history of favoritism and of using the ban hammer on any one that speaks of it. When the details of this come to light and the dust settles, i fear that only one person will be punished for his crimes. That person of course will be the one that made the topic public.

    So proof would be good?

Soco was so full of spies we stopped using ingame channels in -a- long ago for most important shit. At least then we know only PL could access our intel.. XD..

Most intel channels and in game mails were written knowing full well they WOULD get out, even our comms was used in the same way.

SO prove it was a CCP employee.

    1. maybe

      proof is easy.

use racist language in an in-game conversation with another character, then petition it.

ccp will be able to look at the chatlogs to confirm the petition and hand out a warning, gag or ban,
