If earlier this week we introduced you to the effects of Verge of Collapse’s doctrine (armor Strategic Cruisers and very expensive Guardian support) on an numerically superior but unprepared opponent, today we bring you the proceedings of what happened in one of their recent roams, which took place when they found an exit wormhole that led them to Oasa.

Killing everything in their path (most notably an Archon, and a Chimera twenty minutes before that), they eventually rallied their small fleet (with a single Interdictor and a Heavy Interdictor) to the GK3-RX gate, before sending a scout to see what they could find.

Shortly thereafter, rodney119‘s Nyx was located and they crossed their fingers while their Interdictor pilot, xVx dreadnought, got his Heretic in there and bubbled it up.

While the Nyx’s shields dropped fast, DPS from their smallish gang was clearly not up to the task, and Verge of Collapse decided to bring in the cavalry. Unfortunately for them, nobody had a ship ready for the job, so they were forced to wait for close to 10 minutes until somebody could bring it to GK3-RX. In the meantime, two Dreadnoughts were instructed to jump out of the wormhole, and one more (at range) was logged in.

While Verge of Collapse waited for the cyno and the Dreadnoughts, the Nyx and the Heretic pilot danced. At moments, the Nyx was reported to be actively smartbombing the bubbles (and actually managed to break free, although he was not aligned), and the attackers had their own ration of heart attack when one bubble was launched improperly and the Nyx tried to warp immediately…only to have his own alignment motions take him straight to the missed bubble.

Eventually the cyno would arrive, the Dreadnoughts would come to the field, and 15 minutes after pounding at it, the Dreadnoughts decided no help was coming. Already savouring the supercarrier killmail, they entered Siege mode and finally saw the Nyx’s armor dropping.

At this stage, the Nyx entered the final 10% of its armor…and two hostile Thanatos landed right in, desperately trying to save their friend, but Verge of Collapse kept working on the supercapital no matter what. Once the outcome was clear, rodney119 tried to self-destruct the Nyx

[ 2013.01.02 16:12:53 ] (notify) rodney119 has initiated self-destruct of their Nyx, it will explode in 120 seconds.

but it did not work:

Now, realizing a couple of Carriers for dessert are not to be sneezed at, they could tackle one of them and destroyed it. You will notice it has no remore repairers fit, so the chances to help the Nyx were slim:

Not everything was perfect, though, as there was only one Logistics pilot within the Verge of Collapse fleet (Knifee) and a couple of T3 Battlecruisers were lost, but it’s a very minor issue in a very successful night for the Tenth Alliance Tournament winners.

Technically the thanatos could have had RR, but refitted off the other thanatos to have drone control units. Just a possible reason why the KM had no RR.

Nah. You can see what is in corporate hangars when a Carrier dies and he didn't have any Cap. RR in his corporate hangar.

He could have put the RR in the other thanatos's corp hangar.

"with a single Interdictor and a Heavy Interdictor" – there was no hic, just one hero dictor pilot.

It was reported by people present there that, at one point, there was a Hictor in fleet. Specifically mentioned (intel report). It probably left before the action as it's not in the battle report, but undoubtedly it was reported as having been in fleet.

In either case, it's a minor detail and the party was led by the Nyx and xVx dreadnought's Heretic, as described.

The hictor was in fact our alliance diplo Snevets.

However shortly before initial dictor bubbling occured he wandered away in search of tomato soup.

Why? Better than waiting 20 minutes for everyone to arrive and whore on your KM.

That Thanatos is clearly fitted for ratting the NPCs and that pilot more than likely didn't have the time to refit but more than likely was there attempting to bring down the interdicter. I give kudos to him for his effort in trying to save his mate.
