EVE Online is known for stripping away individual rights for the health of the common goal. The best example of this is alliance leadership. Most alliances in EVE are led by a single leader in a sort of dictatorship. Test Alliance Please Ignore is ran by Montolio, Goonswarm is led by Mittani, and Solar Fleet is led by Mactep. Very few cases have we seen a democracy form in which several members decide on the rule in the alliance. Tribal Band is one of those exceptions. Its leadership was ran in a three party system in which the members voted on the actions of the alliance.

Tribal Band (part of the HBC), seemed to be a great example for younger alliances to not hold dictatorships. Unfortunately, this system is failing. One of the members has been absent and the current system doesn’t allow votes to be passed without all three votes. Seeing this alliance failscading, something had to be done and the only option in one man’s mind was a coup. After several messages going back and forth about the leadership, the coup seemed to have worked. The alliance gave up its old three power system and folded into the common EVE dictatorships. The leadership was reformed with Triget being the head alliance leader and many other positions being reworked.

It is difficult to tell if Tribal Bands new leadership will revive the alliance but it is safe to say that the alliance will have some bad blood from the coup that arose and the so-called “back stab” that seemed to follow.

Below are the recordings of the alliance meetings and conversations regarding its position, future, and the coup.

The news of our demise are greatly exaggerated

Concerned members of the alliance, led by Grimbold Dengrist, proposed a meeting to address concerns about the health of alliance and the corps’ confidence in leadership. It was a healthy meeting, with impassioned speakers and one rather committed moderator (Thanks Johann). You can listen to all 1:45 of the meeting, but word on the street is that it will give you cancer.

The crux of the issues revolved around consistency in maintaining alliance standards and treating corps with an appropriate level of respect and understanding. Our recent trimming of the 1000+ inactives with the tightening of auth requirements gave pause to many as they saw the slope. A few corps leaving, that may return following our meeting, exposed a lack of communication between alliance leadership and corp leadership.

In some ways, a frank and open meeting like that directly addressed some of the fundamental issues. Its something we should be having more often, and it broke the ice with many leaders who hadn’t felt confident in expressing their views. The number of leaders, and the newness of many leaders has led to a disconnect between alliance and corp leadership, and I take full blame for this. I recognized it, and the steps I took to bridge that gap were insufficient or flawed. Thus, meetings such as this, and a reaffirmed availability of myself and other leaders to any concern alliance members might have will resolve much of these issues.

The meeting concluded with a change to leadership, and a preservation of the alliance. First, the alliance will be run by a single person, myself, with final say in everything and who sets alliance direction. Second, we will have directors who are assigned specific roles and expected to follow through on them. Grim and Tali are moving to work with HR and have full power to inform corps of where they are in relation to alliance’s standards and for those woefully and habitually failing to meet standards moving them out of the alliance. This should not cause any panic, because active corps will have little difficulty showing they are active and contributing. Third, because of Grim and Tali moving into HR, Hyde and Demerlis will be moving up into the Military and Diplomatic Directors positions. Aura Ikku will become the IT Management Director and Drakos Wraith the IT Development Director. This structure brings us in line with the standard for nulsec alliances. During the meeting, no one expressed dissatisfaction with this structure, many voicing support.

There are number of things that are going to change in response to this meeting, the perspective that corp leaders provided and the needs of a developing nulsec alliance. First, fleeting with reds will no longer be tolerated. Second, the alliance will actively look for ways to help corps fund internal projects. Third, we will be moving JB towers to a logistic corp to stabilize those services. This is just the start for making the alliance into what it needs to be.

As a final note, this alliance was bombarded with misinformation, was predicted to fail cascade and was made the subject of ridicule on public forums. The chance of juicy drama from a fail cascade drew many eyes to the alliance. This post will no doubt find its way to some cesspit as well. Nonetheless, Tribe is not failing, and the whimpers of disappointment will help me sleep soundly for many nights to come. I wish to thank Montolio who has been as diplomatic as ever, and lent his full support to our alliance and its continued place in the HBC.

Leadership Meeting @ 0100 tonight (3 hours from mail)
From: Grimbold Dengrist
Sent: 2012.12.14 22:10
To: Tribal Officers,

Sorry for the short notice, and I hate to do this following our meeting last night, but its time to pull together one more time to talk things over.

I have been in Tribe from day 1, and have always worked to do the best for this alliance. From day 1 we had issues, and we tried to work through them. Unfortunately, as seen by corps leaving things didn’t go the way that was planned. Its time for change. We know what has to be done, but the current leadership has been unable to do it. Running an alliance is hard, same with maintaining relations with our allies, and giving our corps the attention and support they need.

So what I am proposing is this: Tribe leadership needs to change. After talking with many corps I respect in this alliance we have decided that I am the best person at this time to assume control. Some of you I have talked to, others I havent, but I think we all see a need to shake things up. I met with some alliance leadership earlier, and they agreed that change needed to be made, but proposed what in my opinion were half measures designed to do as little as possible to stop the bleeding.

To me, the options are simple, change leadership, or disband the alliance. If we disband, it is not the end. If the worst happens, I have the blessings of TEST to form a new HBC alliance. This would mean losing our space in PB, space we fought for and have held for 5 months. But we would get a new home in Querious, while we grow and regain strength.

At this meeting I want to discuss these plans with you, and ask for your support. Many of the best corps in Tribe are already behind me, because we all see the need for change. I now ask you what you are willing to do and say to help preserve Tribe, and if we are unable to do that, offer you a way forward to a better future.

Between now and the meeting, feel free to poke me on jabber or teamspeak, I want your support, or at least, your feedback on what you would like to see happen, and the changes you feel are needed to preserve this alliance.

The HBC and TRIBE
From: Aura Ikku
Sent: 2012.12.14 22:35
To: Tribal Officers,

So, its become apparent that there has been some misinformation flying around lately, specifically proliferated by Infinite Covenant. The topic? TRIBEs position within the HBC and our main benefactor, TEST alliance.

There have been suggestions that they are so displeased with our leadership that they are requesting that we restructure or even divide into 2 alliances, yet this is not the case!
It has also been falsely claimed that in the unlikely event that we did split into 2 entities, that TEST will reset TRIBE and that the new alliance will be provided with space.

Today I have spoken with Montolio with regards to these suggestions and I’ve been assured that it is wholly untrue. TEST has not requested that we restructure our leadership and they hope that we can resolve any issues we have and maintain the status quo in Period Basis.

“Montolio: I’m not ggoing to reset anyone”

However, I’m not so foolish to see that there are concerns about leadership. It was apparent from the outset that TEST did not exactly approve of our proposed triarchy leadership structure. They suggested that multiple leaders would doom the alliance to failure and that we should consider a dictatorship instead. The problem was that we were merging 2 alliances the 99% and TASHA and this scenario would have been unpalatable to both alliances. Instead, we created a triarchy which was a compromise where we would make decisions based on 3 votes, a sound model in general as long as the 3 people are available.

Recently, however, one of the execs, KageNoTenshi, due to real life issues, has been unable to participate in decision making and as such our model has floundered. For this reason I am willing to step down from my position and vote in a dictator in order increase the effectiveness of the alliance leadership. Yet, I am not willing to cede my role of exec to Grimbold who has attempted a coup using misleading and false information.

TEST maintains the support of TRIBE and we will continue to hold period basis with or without the assistance of Grimbold Dengrist and/or Infinite Covenant.

If we chose to divide into 2 alliances neither entity will hold Period Basis. This has been confirmed!

To: Tribal Officers, Aura Ikku,

Part of what Aura says is correct, TEST will not reset us arbitrarily. However they do believe based on previous experience and their interactions with us that we are heading for failure. They want to see us succeed, but don’t have much faith in the current leadership.

I am sure you all see this as well as I do. If we do nothing we will ultimately fail, and I will not sit still and let that happen.

TEST will not backstab us, that is a certainty. But ignoring our problems and focusing solely on that will only lead us to failure.

About Grim
From: Triget
Sent: 2012.12.15 00:10
To: Tribal Officers,

So it seems Grim is trying to start an old-fashioned coup.

He’s been unhappy, dissatisfied with our alliance full of scrubs, hisec rejects and pubbies for as long as the alliance has been around. With just about every corps that has come into alliance, he’s said they were worthless, and that we should kick them immediately. He pushed for a comprehensive set of metrics to judge corps on. When I followed his lead and pushed hard for authentication, he backed away from it as the negative feedback began rolling in.

Now, his frustrations with the pace of alliance development seem to have come to a head. While just yesterday, he was TRIBE4LIFE, ready to jump in and work with Tali and HR, today he wishes to gut the alliance of corps. He wishes to stage a coup, overthrow alliance leaders and set himself up as the alliance executive, or take as many corps as he can with him.

Grim has continually misrepresented TEST and our place in the HBC to force his will. I assure everyone in the alliance that TEST’s faith, and our space remains solid and safe.

There was no failscade. Just a lot of butthurt pubbies crying that they weren't getting more money from the moons, when it was decided months ago to nationalize all the cobalt. Those corps went off to continue being bad at eve with even worse alliances. Also, some drama llamas that couldn't get over a couple duders flying with some old bros in neutral space, and pizza trying (and failing) to be relevant on forums.

Bad attempt at a coup was put down effectively. Lots of dead llamas. We now have some nice new Alpaca wool sweaters for this winter.

Fleet participation is up. Finances are healthy. The remaining membership is now stronger for losing the unreliable and disloyal corps. Executive decisions will be quicker and more efficient. Tribe Band isn't going anywhere.

It's nice that Tribe thinks it could do this but after listening to a portion of the torture that is that recording, it sounds as though there is no alliance framework, rules & regs, SOP's, whatever you want to call it. Therefore the fail. Sounds like the dictatorship will fix it. Duh. I'm surprised it didn't lay a turd long before this.

Goons and Test are friends 4 life man many have tried different approaches to get them to fight with no avail. Best hope to get rid of these two is to create a third power block with close to as many blues that can fight one of em toe to toe. This will never happen though because alliance will much rather die to Test, PL and Goons than blue a n enemy who is also at risk of losing space.

You cant be serious…You have only Fought guys you could Bully and us [A group of 5k Dudes Held you for 4 Months] When you have Double us in just 1 Alliance and about 30k in all.

HBC on the other hand has been fighting -A- and a bunch of there buddies adding to a total of 15k+ in the begining and has beat them pretty soundly.

In a word They invaded a HUUUUGGEEE area with a Coalition of Half there numbers and pushed them back soundly time after time.

You fought a Coalition 1/6th your size and we kicked your teeth in 8 times out of 10 where as the 8th time you had so many swarmingants you took a Moon etc but still lost 4x the isk we did.

Even with All our POS`s abandoned meaning About 2 bil a pop x 30 moons is 60 Bil we had a 73% ISK K/D ratio….Sorry but HBC with PL at its front would rol lyou up and spit you out. ESP since you lost your Drake blob, if NCDOT+BL+NULLI fought you today we would beat you even worse, You wouldnt lose 200 Drakes but 200 Maels.

Come on man I agree TEST uses its numbers but you are High as fuck if you dont give credit where its due.

TEST: Just Numbers, irrelevant in every other sight = They do show up though, when we fought GSF, it was always 20% FCON, 20%Razor, 20% FA, 25% Mixed and 15% GSF almost everytime, so when Test the "Head of HBC comes out with 500 man Fleets day after day and GSF couldnt get 50 guys on a steady basis, sorry but it speaks loudly.

PL: OK = Great, even not there strongest era in Eve because of inactives they have the best Super Fleet in Eve and not just because its alot, they are also tope 3 at using it in Eve. Subcaps Run at 80 Napocs which with Support Kill everything.

INIT.:OK= Better than ok and not Great, I would say good esp with there Exp in both helping take AAA before and losing to AAA after but most of all being resilient and not dying as 99% of Alliances would have.

Raiden:OK= Solid, still the cream of the remains of IT/BoB and while only 50% of them remain after others went to NC. still very very solid.

Tribal: Shit =Maybe IDK as well someone help me give a accurate descript thats obviously not so terrible.

Thorn: Shit= You are batshit crazy if you think Thorn is shit. Im no lover of Ex-NC guys but there leaders have done great, from what I see on KB`s they have great small fleet actions and wasnt it them who was raping CFC like 10 jumps out of UMI and CFC went crying so loud because like 30 guys roamed and killed so many? From what I have seen nothing but rising all-stars TBH Please show me different.

OOS.: Too new, too shitty=Maybe IDK as well someone help me give a accurate descript thats obviously not so terrible.
Walltreipers: Fail Hype, the sucks too=Maybe IDK as well someone help me give a accurate descript thats obviously not so terrible.
Unclaimed: Meh, so lala= All I know is they have taken alot of space, but at the cost of alot of supers, TBH I need more info and would enjoy a more nuetral opinion, I really wish to know these guys.
Exe: Irrelevant=TBH I need more info and would enjoy a more nuetral opinion, I really wish to know these guys.
Squee: Even More Irrelevant=TBH I need more info and would enjoy a more nuetral opinion, I really wish to know these guys.
High Roller: More and more and more irrelevant.

Sorry but when you guys from AAA call guys like PL shit, and then you blame all your losses from NCC on them, and all the reason your homeless on them, IMo its one or the other. Are they shit or are they very skilled excellent patient players with droves of exp and great leadership?

I fell bad for Tribal a little bit. But this whole meeting could have been shorter if people didn't go off topic about moons which had nothing to do with leadership problems or all the other shit they were talking about.
This is simple and you can still remain a democracy. Elect one person to run the show but give executors or directors equal power so that one man doesn't turn into a dictatorship and regroup.
What would be good for Tribe is to NOT rent which is stupid because whatever they try to make x percent is going towards the rent and other things and expand on Sov abit, get better at PVP(A must) while building numbers.
Some of these guys hearts are in the place and they don't want to see Tribe fall and people like that should run the corp put the Alliance first before anyone else.

Thats what Tribe needs aright now. Ignore everything else no matter what their masters say and handle the problems and get stuff down. Get their shit together or the CFC(Or just HBC) will have their way.And yes they will.
