A few days ago we reported on the downing of a Erebus titan in low sec. Protaa who happened to be the Titan pilot, promised us a battle report and we commited to publish it once we receive it. Here it is, better late than never.
Part I – The Boring Backstory
Apologies for not putting this up sooner but pretty much right after I lost my Erebus I had to rush off to see Skyfall ( great movie) and then drive up to the beach house for the weekend. Anyway here is a bit of backstory that’s probably relevant.
My Accounts (Andrejs L/Protaa) have been rather active and notorious in the Placid region for years now: having fun with Cry Havoc, making friends with Invicta, ect. Our roots started out in old old, old Kadeshi which housed a lot of ex YouWhat members (Cloud ring 06 if anyone remembers). This was a completely different Kadeshi than the joke of an alliance you may know now. (Prior to the resignation of Derwent as alliance leader)
We had some dealings with a pretty knowledgeable dude by the name of Lord Mummbi, CEO of Invicta, Defender of the Alliance, and together we did some drops and ops with my old corp Ingen Industries. Then came a long period of nothingness while I joined PL and a number of my members joined Invicta.
Fast Forward a Long Time – With years of history and good fights, many ex Ingen members flocked to my banner to form a new corp: Constantine. Meanwhile Invicta has died and is reformed into Infiana Elparus and again we do a few drops together.
Fast Forward an Even Longer Time – Infiana is once again inactive and I have swapped out Protaa’s nyx for an Erebus, something I think of as a gracious farewell present from PL, a memorial to the empire I once knew. Sadly, they’re just not what they used to be… but the clash of sword and shield still rings clear in my memory. Lord Mummbi and I keep the back channels open and from time to time we share stories of heroes past and present. One day he tells me his going to sell his accounts. I urge him to reconsider and invite him along whenever Constantine goes for a drop. I try to get him in on it if we have time. I’ve got him on a nice aeon kill and a few other caps, as well as a few attempts at fishing for supers.
A few days before the Aeon, we were fishing for a lone carrier that had escaped the previous night’s capital engagement in Maut, Placid. We trace the Riot Formation Archon to a cyno in Adirain and Infiana Elparus member Bluetippedflyer offers to cyno us in which we gratefully accept. We easily kill the Archon we were after but poor Bluetippedflyer fails to point a 2nd Archon. Now to tell you a bit about this fellow Blue: he is terribly annoying. I’m sure you all know this one person in your corp or alliance that’s such a faggot you absolutely have to blap him (as a joke)….and so we whack him on the nose with a newspaper for his error and blap his navy mega. Now in his cozy little pod, Blue has a fit and disconnects off teamspeak. We try to cool his hot heart with a fresh Navy mega and a nice lump sum of isk. After all, it’s just fun and games and it was pretty hilarious to actually kill that “annoying” player, he’s just unbearable to listen to. Anyway this apparently sparks a ‘xXxVENDETTAxXx’ or something. I’m not too sure or it maybe have had something to do with Capital BPO’s from a long time ago. Oh well.
Part II – That actual fight
After dicking around with faction BS, losing a Kronos, and solo nightmare to Kraken Alliance – (Caldari Militia I think) all in an attempt at some cool fraps footage, we whip out a carrier (being Ninja Unicorns its pretty standard lol). After suffering several losses, Kraken pulls off the field. Our eyes in the region mention they’re heading to ammo supply depot in Enaluri to regroup and rearm. I get a mail from who I can only guess is their FC declaring their intent to come back for round 2. Intrigued, I log onto Caldari Militia Teamspeak and listen in hopes they will escalate with capitals. My suspicions confirmed, I form some Constantine bait BS and 2 Carriers to spider tank their neuting BS. As usual, I invite my friend Lord Mummbi and Infiana Elparus along ( oops). Our two fleets (Constantine + Kraken) meet in Indregulle and the fight begins. We drop our 2 Carriers with my toon Andrejs L in an Archon and Sir Yiffles in a Thanatos. We hold our position while Kraken scramble to move a cyno over to Indregulle as they lacked liquid ozone in the cyno they brought lol. While we wait we listen to their comms, a delightful mix of new and newer players spouting the cutest nonsense. At this point the majority of Constantine dreads and a trio of supers are all wait on standby. Being the careful person I am, I log on eyes with my laptop and check on all groups that could match our dreads (sotf, snuff, sdw crtl ect ect.) It was an older code but it checked out. I was made aware earlier that Shadow Cartel had formed a dread fleet with HICs fishing for a Nyx that was yet to log on. Knowing that Kraken had no ties with Shadow Cartel I made the call to go for it.
Kraken Alliance finally got a cyno we had been waiting for and droped a Moros and Nidhouger, less than expected. We jump some caps to kill them and feeling fairly safe I jump in my Erebus to get protaa in on another sick frag. I’m not the type to keep my erebus behind pos shields 24/7, I’d much rather actually use it in 0.0 and lowsec. I have the isk to do it why not go balls deep ^.^. We’re all on field and the strangest thing happened… the Infiana Elparus dreads seem to have disconnected …. Nope they simply dropped fleet and teamspeak and joined Shadow Cartel pretty much as soon as my Erebus had jumped in. At the same time, Shadow cartel HICs appearing pointing my Erebus and the curtain fell…. In came the Shadow Cartel dread fleet… .. I first began to feel something might not be right when I saw my long time friend and acquaintance Lord Mummbi shooting along with almost every other dread on the field haha.
I said on coms I will probably lose my titan and that Mummbi and friends had betrayed me for a titan mail. I called targets on Hics while we get supers and unsieged dreads out but it was a futile effort. I quickly called to log on every Falcon alt we had and reship everyone else to ECM. I rapidly paired a Hic to a friendly Falcon so I figured I might just get out of this one, I had been in worse situations before haha. But alas as fate would have it, my noble steed and rather notorious erebus died.

Anyway Good Fight Shadow Cartel you guys definitely got the jump on us. Judging from the 35+ rather rude emails in my inbox you’ve made a lot of people smug. I still think it would have been a very, very long time before I died had I not been backstabbed by Lord Mummbi. Hope it was worth it and don’t expect to receive a Christmas card…. OR A HAMPER….*grumbles and goes to buy a nag since their kooooool.
*Also just to clarify Kraken or whoever the Caldari Militia were posed no danger and did NOT hold my titan down for 20minutes its painful to read some of the terribly inaccurate comments posted of ‘we KILLED A TITAN’ Yeahhh!. Lol but grats on getting on that mail remember it well.

basically it wasnt a backstab m8, it was retribution for that guy you blapped in your own fleet. you popped probably his most expensive ship and humiliated him, and now hes got ya back. deal with it.

It doesn't matter. He chose to pop a fleet mate, and replacing the ship does not undo the fact he popped his mate.
Like the guy said, they paid him back in ship and isk.

Knowing Protaa/Adreis and how shady he always has been puts this story into much better perspective. He called Blue a Super annoying dude, but TBH he is just as obnoxious, he simply gained a little fanclub by farming renters in Syndicate and the D2 pocket for the last 3 years. He is skilled but, popping a buddy/blue who went out of his way to light a cyno for you is a backstabb. Repayed or not that ISK is red on his toon forever and a little embarrassing especially Andre is so loud and talks soooooooo much shit in space.
Just because later they payed back a ship doesnt mean shit. IMO if they wanted to "Play around" they could have done what we do as jokes to annoying Blues, Drop Comms instantly then target him, then take him to hull while speaking in local like he`s gonna die then when he is in hull and thinking he`s a gonner you do what any solid Blue "Friend" as he said does and stop SHOOTING, then you rep him up get back in comms and laugh your asses off as he probably shit himself.
Instead of a prank they killed this guy. The most unimaginative and cowardly ways to "Prank someone".
Also knowing them I bet he replaced ship after he herd from Mummbi not Blue, he didnt replace it because he`s kind, he did it so he wouldnt have consequences later……Well guess what, There were still obvious hatred from there side.
In CH we worked with Ingen and Derwent and them but we always knew Protaa/Andre was ascurvy motherfucker and you couldnt trust him with a 10 foot pole, we just never cared as we were 1 million times more powerful and could have turned his entire little 25 man gang into ash with our 50+ Supers….He still was never trusted, and I know Mummbi he is a great guy who was nothing but honorable and always helped buddies in CH, if he killed him it wasnt for a little Titan KM whoring, to Mummbi thats nothing, this dude is Top Ten players of Eve in most areas including history of battles he was in and kills he`s been on, he literally was in every major Super battle in Max campaigns and when CH broke apart didnt go the route like me of NCDOT or like Habit and the other half of CH that made modern PL that all Eve trembled at [adding 30+ Supers to there line up back in 2010 when they were special] He stuck around and stayed in very small very elite PVP.
TL;DR
Mummbi = Honorable rock solid Gent, who was always willing to fight huge odds and stay loyal.
Protaa/Adre = Scurvy/Totally unreliable pirate who farmed D2 pocket his whole career and never was trusted by many and when he was showed he didnt deserve it.
Andre/Protaa killed Mummbi`s Buddy who was helping him and killed there tower out of all the towers in Syndi/Lowsec.
Mummbi killed Protaa`s Titan because of this, and Protaa is still now just as trustworthy as a "Friend" as he was before.

I really don't think of him that way. Lots of people have ships. Few people used their ships like he did or in as many situations that he did . . . as boldly as he did. So yea while he is "just another guy who used to have a ship". He also did what is important when you have a super . . . he had fun in it. This'll be kinda cheesy but I think rather appropriate in this situation. It isn't the destination so much as the journey getting there.
Exactly. Very, very, few individuals with supercaps have the balls to use them, much less use them outside of the loltastic gigantic supercap ganking fleets in 0.0.
I don't know a huge amount about this guy in particular – but that just shows you're doing it right. If you're using your super a ton in crazy ways, you want to keep your profile low – ppl will be looking to gank you.
Sala has/had a reputation for being a crazy ragnarok pilot, and was even credited with the first titan video, simply because he used it often in fleets and widely publicized his exploits. I did much more "solo supercap"/small ganging that he did, and even threw out a video, but never widely publicized it with the exception of a certain forum I frequent(who immediately raged at me and make me regret even mentioning it to this day, but tahts another story).
From what I heard he used it often, not necessarily in large fleets, and that puts him above the other 99% of supercap/titan pilots imo. 'Nuff Said, mad props brother-buy another soon.
Well – he did the risk assessment himself instead of 'yes m'lord'. With risk comes lossmails – it's unavoidable.
As for the backstab, I'm reminded of Poe, a certain coat-of-arms and a pile of bricks.

The last solo blap-titan in EVE died.
All the other titans in this game are 1) hidden in one of the coalition napfests and/or 2) just bridging fleets.
i think its a great shame that one of the only people that actually feel the security to drop a titan on a fleet has died.
The only other titan pilot who i respect for doing such a thing is 'wixxy' or a similar name in ROL. Caused me and my alliance mates a great deal of trouble

Lacco (the former leader of draketrain) is another one of these merry-go-round titan pilots. I have seen his chars in at least 3 titans, and a month ago I was baiting one of them, but he doesn't stay long in one place.

this shows you that the player may have enough rl cash to buys chars and isk to have fun in eve even with titans, so all of a sudden (he) doesn't get as much awesomeness credit as some of you would give him…
But he does get some indeed, i do believe that the sort of activity he indulged in with his cor should be encouraged as opposed to bridging in fleets in test or something BUT i would respect the guy much more if he and his titan in fact joined an underdog alliance or powerblock like i dunno… NC. and made and tried to fight the forces of evil instead of hot dropping noob-wannabe alliances when he knows he can't lose. I can see how his ego got him in this situation at the end and to the guy who backstabbed him i would say fair play, however i can see how it must suck to lose all that isk even though you thought you thought of everything and were smart and careful which should pay off. But this case forms a nice example of how fatal a bitter-vet, AAA-like behavior can be and is yet another building block of the new TESTlike culture which in my view shows yet again that a new era has begun in EVE.
I will end with noting that the titan pilot in question did indeed take his loss like a man and that again he should get credit for but yet again he could Afford to be cool about it so though he is an example of a good Vet he is also an example of a dying (fail cascading) type of players' mindset, His kind of players will have to change or die.
I just hope he learned his lesson… Lesson on PR not on loyalty…

Dont let that statement about PL fool you, Protaa`s main and him for the last 3 years has spent 90% of there time killing first CH renters Fear the Vamps then when they got booted by NC , FA+FCON+Monkeys etc and basically made a career of nailing Newbs.
Im sorry but I agree with Indy in alot of ways, he could have joined a cause like NCDOT and had loads of fun fighting the David vs Goliath war, then I would credit him with huge brass balls using his SC in there Ninja Ops towards the end trying to save Tribute.
TBH if we had all Invicta guys and my other ex-CH bros come fight GSF we would have been able to hold them off way longer meaning more fun fights where we were outnumbered but still targets galore and tons of great fights, not just blobbing but roaming UMI, etc…It was a great time so Goons did give us immense joy fighting as the underdog`s the more guys we would have added the longer the fights would have been [not like the shitty timer fights towards the end.]

Kadeshi is really shit now though. The space theyve obtained is not because they claimed it with brute force or got it rewarded for doing something good. They just walsed in and stepped in line to become another shit pet. They keep fooling them selfs that they are a good alliance and that they are prospering when infact all they do is sit in their little pocket of space being smug when their overlords do something and yet keep losing carriers every week doing missions/plexes
