I am still recovering from the shock when I initially heard this story. This a quintessential proof of how useless Titans have become and how they are perceived through the eyes of some of their holders.
Mining Titan down! Yes, I Repeat Mining Titan down.
The Kalevala Expanse: Acwron from Relativity Alliance [RENT] had some quality time; he was participating in a mining op which included an Orca, a few mackinaws and of course Acwron’s own Ragnarok Titan. NCDOT caught word of this and FC Travis Musgrat formed up a quick response fleet, one can only imagine the look on the face of the titan pilot when an NCDOT heavy interdiction landed on the grid and nailed the super-capital, a cyno was lit shortly afterward and the whole mining fleet was obliterated by the NCDOT supers. The bridging support fleet was larger than shown on the kill-mail, the thing is the Ragnarok and the other ships melted so fast there were nothing left to shoot.
There is an on-going discussion on who this Relativity Alliance is, some say it is some Black Legion. renter (which to my knowledge owns no renter) while other pointed it is an Against All Anomalies (SOLAR Ally) renter. The alliance shares blue standings with both alliances, it is pretty obvious – since the kill happened in Kalevala – this is a SCDOT client alliance.
For years I have heard and written stories about pilot stupidity, but this while not on the top of my list, is quite high up there.

Our commenter leetnessmonster pointed a protest post made by this very same pilots in the Eve-O forums where he pointed out the changes in tracking and how it affected him:
Since CCP lied to us and said they cut 50% tracking but instead they added some idiotic equation…I mean, let’s say my bullet is the size of a frigate, when I hit it, I deal like 10-15 damage…So instead of going thru the goddamn frigate and splash it all over the system, the said bullet is scratching it FFS

Travis Musgrat sent us the following battle report on how things actually went down:
For the past few days the scanner had been poking me about this rag that was mining and getting me to setup on him for a lol Titan mail. We went through several ideas of getting alts to AWOL or log off a prover and dictor in system to tackle but the night before ended up having the scanner log off with his main in a cloaking cyno probing dictor.
So he logged on and got on ts with the Titan pilot and basically got him to say he was mining so I then moved the route into position. This entire time I had neglected to really do anything because I highly doubted that we would get the tackle. I pinged for slows and supers to log in screens and got maybe 8 dudes that wanted a kill; nobody except scanner and I knew we were going for a Titan until scanner had him tackled and lit the cyno in his sabre.
So we moved those of us in slows to the last mid and got scanner to log in. He dropped probes got him to 50% on his first hit and took him 2 more times to get warp able results.
The entire nerve wracking time this was going on I tried to get updates but couldn’t get any until he lit cyno because he was shaking so hard he couldn’t say anything.
He tackled, lit cyno, ghost riders went and the 3-4 of us who had brought our supers with us came in and watched him melt. In the time I had pinged after I confirmed tackled he was already 70% shields from either the rats or fighters the ghost riders put on him before they got into hics. People poured into channel and about 30 were in either mid by the time he poped but only jean leaner from nulli was the only person that did 2 mids in the time he died and managed to jump in and whore with a smart bomb. Them went home while I got on my soapbox and laughed at all the people who didn’t get on the Mail for not being on standby.

Reading your Titan kill article you seem to be lacking a bit of intel so here goes:-
The backstory to why RENT has blue standings to both SCDOT and BL. goes back to the recent conflict in Kalevala. When IRC, Persona Non Gratis, Ethereal Dawn and Black Core Alliance evicted SONE/Broken Toys from the region following their failed attack on Etherium Reach. SCDOT joined the fight on the side of the Solar Coalition in the later days and did alot of work grinding structures with supers, this along with the fact that the Etherium Reach alliances really didn’t want the sov in Kalevala led to SCDOT taking most of it.
However when the last northern pocket of Broken Toys space was all that was left they flipped the space over to Black Legion. A conflict between the two sides raged on for a few days as we endlessly blapped each others TCU’s but it ended quickly when SCDOT made a deal with BL. to share proceeds of any rent taken in that pocket of space.
That is pretty much why they are both blue to RENT.
Story of the kill since i know the dude who killed the titan (lit cyno) and the titan pilot.
Acwron was using the titan to tank the mining anomaly and mine at the same time, while talking with The Scanner (dude who lit cyno) on my corp TS. Scanner was a member of my corp and he spent his first days eve eve salvaging after the titan in PB cause Acwron let him. Tonight they were both on the same ts, talking and Acwron din’t took him as a threat since he was on ts and knew him.
Mistakes were made -1 titan.
