So yesterday a Reddit went up with the title “Guy in my alliance stole 184 PLEXes from a station corp hangar in high sec.”
Attached came the following picture:
Naturally all the comments ranged from “who would buy so much PLEX” to “you idiot” until we bumped into this one written by redditor MrUlterior who questioned why the picture in question had been cropped:

Notice the private convo he has open? It’s with a character “Liber Mortis”, the character claiming to have stolen the PLEX is “Umba Dilla”
Both have two corps in common in corp history at the same time – so one is likely the alt of the other:

So, it seems like someone conveniently left 184 PLEX on a corp hanger only to be “stolen” by another “account” with suspiciously similar corp history and intentionally spilled some drama to cover up what quite likely seems to be nothing but an insider operation.
Umba Dilla went on to brag about it (or prepare an alibi) in alliance chat as shown in the original screenshot which reddit’s timestamp shows it to be two days old.
Keep in mind the link of the heist to Liber Mortis is not exactly clear beyond MrUlterior’s comment – albeit the timely Titan WTB order, the similar corp history and the convo link it. It is interesting to note that the main character in question, Umba Dilla is member of Fatal Ascension alliance – a fact which apparently can be easily overlooked.
Also there was no mention of other items taken from said corp hanger, which brings another veil of suspicion to the whole thing.
I’ll let you decide whether this was an inside job or a good PLEX heist or a guy simply trying to cover up the fact that he bought a Titan’s worth in PLEX.

I've bought PLEX from time to time for things, and i also use isk for PLEX every month to pay accounts, so in the end i'm just getting the isk back that i would have had if i had let the payment go through. The thought of spending that much on pixels, on pixels, I say again ON PIXELS, is ridiculous, especially considering it will probably go pop at some point and now you are out that much cash.

You do know most of the sites give you plex and tags equal to the buy order amount in Jita to avoid large isk transactions? This could be one of them. 184 plex would be roughly equal to abt 90 or so bils.

Neither character recently left a corporation, which means there must be a 3rd character, or it is in fact all bogus =)
Of course is all bogus, there was no "heist" only a PLEX transaction to buy a titan.
Wether those PLEX were brought legally, in game or illegally that's up for speculation.
Speaking about heists, i am pretty sure PL is going to feel slight itch about those 500bil transfered to -A-…. all is going public pretty soon

Apparently an -A- spy goto in to BCDI and him and a few friends stole 3-4 titans that were sitting in a CCSA

Now, everytime I here something about a scam and Reddit, I immediately assume it's a hoax (similar to the last 'theft' posted there a few months back about almost 200 bil in stuff stolen…on SISI…)
Although, looks like a TQ thing (alliance member numbers). So, maybe it's money laundering. Maybe it's just some dude got scammed. Maybe that was an alt of the guy who got robbed. Whatever. Something here smells fishy…and it's not the surstromming that I'm having with dinner.

Only way for this to be against EULA/ToS is if he bought the isk from a site yea? In that case 100 bil is about $2000 and not 3100.

isk transfers without logs are pretty easy, and untraceable
Frankly, I like the concept of being able to convert real money into isk. I have a RL job that is very demanding, a wife, and other hobbies I enjoy rather than plexing and rotting away "earning isk." I can fund my PVP losses and other interests (for the sake of just doing/having them).
Granted dropping 3 Gs at once for an internet space ship is a little extreme, but for all we know, this guy might be selling old russian military equipment, be some douchebag oil prince jerking off to goat porn on his private island in the persian gulf, or just be that guy living with his parents with nothing else to spend his money on. It's relative… just like my first rifter loss.

I am like many others that having this feeling that something is not right, & it isn't just the fact the scam or whatever you want to call it was in fact a badly set out bullshit story.

So why CCP should check this? It's part of the game play, an actual game feature that you can steal & scam as much as you want as long as you do it inside the virtual world using your own accounts (and not by stealing someone's account).

I see that you really don't get what EVE is about. It's virtual reality. Much better than any other we have currently, if you want the virtual reality to actually to have real drama based on real emotions, not just faked roleplay shit. Best thing in EVE is that people actually roleplay it without even realizing it never.

While those are legitimate questions I still have trouble believing someone will steal 184 plex yet their too nice of a guy to out the victim publicly.
There is another possibility I thought about posting here but didn't because it is highly unlikely. I guess I'll put it up anyhow.
The guy could have been saving his isk for a long time to buy a titan. Although tucking away large amounts of cash in your mattress may work, inflation is always working against you. Your better off investing your isk in something likely to retain at least it's same value in comparison to inflation. Ships and mods can be a bad idea due to unforeseen nerfs etc.
However if you invest in plex you can be reasonably assured that it will still have roughly the same value as it did when you bought it compared to the market. I take occasional breaks from the game and always kick myself in the ass for not putting all my isk into plex.
It's highly unlikely this is what happened but thought I'd just throw out a what if.

Umba Dilla is claiming to have stolen the PLEX. Obvious NOT with Umba itself, because the story says, that he used a char, that was IN a certain Highsec corp for 4 years.
Liber Mortis is obvious a toon of Umba – and the one buying the Titan now.
But where comes the "Victim" into play, and the connection to the thief?

I cannot imagine that this was an illegal transaction. I am pretty sure CCP will monitor such high amounts of PLEXs and ISK transactions, if only to find new leads into major RMT activities. It is one of things I would monitor and trace on a regular basis if I was CCP Sreggs.
My guess is someone is spending a lot of money on EVE, does not want everyone to know about it and so he spins a story. Because he does not know how to make these amounts of ISKs in-game is he not only forced to buy the ISKs, but his story turns out to be rather wild, too. Or in other words, someone who knows how to make lots of ISKs does not need to buy them and also knows how to tell a better story.
Spending $3000 on a spaceship may seem crazy, but I have seen kids of rich parents who have spend three times as much as this on drugs and prostitutes.
So all I can really say is this: I wish you all the best with your Titan and have fun with it! You could be sniffing cocaine and f'cking whores instead!!
