you guys know that tons of eve players have been killed, whether they be car accidents, suicides, or combined arms ambushes by enemy insurgents. the fact that one more, that more people know, was killed doesn't change the nature of a computer game.

totally agree, but it sounds like people are talking about how this dude was a superhuman American hero who did more than any of us have ever dreamt of doing. it's a sad loss, for sure, but this guy wasn't "doing more than any Soldier." he was likely getting paid sweet loads of money to be there and do network stuff. it just struck a chord to me to hear someone say that now this guy was going above and beyond the call of Soldier who goes out on patrol and looks for a fight. the guy got murdered by a bunch of assholes, but it's no more heroic or earth-shattering than a guy getting murdered at a 7-11 by a bunch of gangbangers.

It's not a matter of who said what, what people have done in the past, or whether actions are justified based on any of those instances. It's about your personal morals. Any man or woman with dignity and respect sees what happened as both tragic and a reminder that the characters we are in this game are insignificant compared to the character we have in the real world. Mr. Smith, whether your political or cultural views agree, was doing his job. He was not a soldier, he was an IT guy doing is job in a dangerous place. Like Vile Rat or not, Sean Smith was more of man than most.
