The popular fitting tool EveHQ is announcing it’s development discontinuation:

After more than 7 years developing EveHQ, it is now time to call it a day.

Having taken on a new job (technically, 2 new jobs) at the end of July, things have been busy and I can’t see I’ll have any time to actively develop EveHQ as well as everything else I want to do in my free time, so something needs to give way. Version 3 has had no development at all in the past few weeks and version 2 has only received minor updates to keep up with Eve patches. Therefore, the 2.10.1 version released last week is the final ever update.

The website will stay up for the next month or so until the hosting expires and of course, the source code will remain up indefinitely if someone has the desire to take the project over.

It has been fun and challenging working on EveHQ all this time. Thanks to all those that have supported the project through your words and wallets, and I’m sorry that I can no longer continue, but I need to move on. Maybe I will return one day but until then, I look forward to trying out some other well known Eve tools for the first time

Corelin from Mad Haberdashers putted it perfectly:

I don’t blame him, real life trumps EvE every time, but EvE HQ will rapidly age without maintenance and be practically unusable without a caretaker. I wish the best of luck to Vessper and hope he finds time to come back some day and resume his dominance of the 3rd party tool world.

[Original post]

Is a shame, although there exist other tools as EFT and EveMon – EveHQ was the only one merging everything together, so is a big loss for the community.

Hopefully CCP Games could pick up where EveHQ left.

*UPDATE

EvE HQ is undead! Vessper on August 26, 2012 at 20:35 said:
Just to update everyone…I’ve been talking to someone who is willing (and able) to take over the project, from coding to the website. We’ve discussed the potential major issues and they’re covered. Just need to sort out the finer details now but I’ll keep people informed as it develops.

Keep your fingers crossed.

C'mon man, 1 program to rule them all. 1 program to bind them.

None of this "Ok figure out a fit in evefit, piece together what I need, go over to evemon and add it to my plan one by one"

      No integral Wormhole calculator

      No POS planner

      No integral Route Planner

Nothing even APPROACHING the power of Prism for manufacturing planning.

      EvE HQ will be missed.

No, you look and at yourself. You are sucker for tools. You talk as if you could not play the game without them: "the community needs more…" FUCK YOU! It is YOU who needs tools. And do not say you need Ves. You would take it of any person. So there is your personality.

I write my own tools and I do not make them public. Why would I give up an advantage in a PvP game and for people like you?!?

Start to accept it. You just lost an advantage. Now stop whining about it. Do your own tools or shut up.

people like Ves fill the void that CCP hasnt, but with all the whining and complaining eve pilots constantly put out about gameplay issues, its no wonder CCP dont have the time to fill this void.

Go to your room young man; the grownups in here are going to talk logic.

More on topic: EVEHQ supported several things that simply haven't been achieved with other EVE-external applications. Pyfa and EVEmon are exceptional at what they do, but EVEHQ was the best jack-of-all-trades application available. Plus it's Battleclinic integration made it easier for young pvp'ers to get a hang of ship fitting. You can argue the master of none theory, but "1 program to rule them all" is a desirable perk.

I mostly liked EVEHQ for helping others more than helping myself; but EVEHQ had a perfect POS Builder, great skill planning facilities, and the Prism app was unbeat. I was upset when it wouldn't launch properly anymore.

I've never seen someone so proud to be uptight and unsupportive. I'm going to ignore you on here now but i look forward to your kill postings! Link your killboard in your next post (I'm sure you've been hitting refresh constantly waiting for my reply) if your man enough.

As someone who uses both that comparison is almost insulting. Neocom can't hold a candle to the full ability of EveHQ, though to be fair only industrialists can full appreciate it's power.

        1. Smackcrack4

Only remember one thing, no it isn't insulting for a very simple reason. What platform does EVE HQ run on? A bloody computer. Neocom is on a fucking smartphone, nowhere near the same capabilities. And anyway, if you're gonna go the spreadsheet route for eve, most people use their goddamn computer because it's more practical. Neocom is made to be on the go, so all it needs is skill checks, mail checks and market checks. The fact that it has a full fitting tool along with other features is a bonus. What I was implying is that if you put both on the same level, they're just as good, just as polished.

I'm sure, if not this project is continued, another one will be made. So while it's the end of a great one, people like you, presuming you can do it, will continue the trend of third party programs. And with CCP's continued and increasing support of programs like this, it's looking like a bright future.

one of the best thing that eve have vs any other game is their 3rd party (aka unpayed players) tools and utilitys.

    It's a big loss.

Evemon, eft, dotlan, evewho, somerblink, eveo poker, evsco, evesurvival, evecentra, evenews24…

Even if most othe time is community seems (is) retarded (count me on) it' s still what makes the difference beetween EVE and any other game

  16. If CCP did half of this stuff for themselves, we wouldn't be in this position where we are now mourning the passing of one of the great 3rd party programs out there. CCP has only just gotten around to mimicking a killboard with the new kill reports, goodness knows how much longer we have to wait for any other content to appear to minimise the pain when things like this happen.

I hope somebody can pick this up and keep it running.

I am surprised that anyone is still actually developing Third Party Apps for EVE Online. i say this because unless I am badly mistaken the game is still loosing a lot of subscribers. (Most P2P MMO's are ATM)
thank you to those that developed EVEHQ even though I never actually used it I know people that have & who were reasonably happy with the things it helped to do.

We have to remember that EVE is now 9 years old & for a computer game of any type that is a good run.
I think in the coming 12 months we will see a lot of the people who are still developing Third Party Apps for EVE also stop so they can move on with other more exciting games. (Seems there are a growing number that now use EVE style API interfaces to allow their users to create external apps)

Am starting to wish CCP would get it over & done with & either properly support EVE or fuck it off completely because the game could of been so much more had they properly supported it from the start.

Hum … a quick look on EVE-Offline will show you that the subscription "base" has been steadly increasing since EVE was released 10 years ago. Operative word there being "base". Which means that since its release there are more people subscribing than people leaving.

      1. John Douche

Those are the online player numbers. It does not tell you how many accounts are active or how many of them are paid with subscriptions. It is interesting that you compare the current numbers with the beginning… You must have realized the "bump" these numbers received after the release of Incarna. Maybe EVE will grow endlessly and forever … or it could also have passed its zenith. It still is enough players to have fun with EVE and not to care about the numbers. I prefer to think of the dent as a "kick to the balls" of CCP. It did not kill them, but instead it brought them back to making some good expansions and real game changes.

Also, who knows how many more botters got kicked in the meantime. With the success CCP Sreegs has made are those online numbers more solid than ever before.

Yeah Douche, you're right. I should have said a "quick study" instead. If only one assumes that more people online equals more people subscribing.

But even though that is only an assumption, one would be hard pressed to say that EVE is losing subscribers when the average "people online" number keep growing (also on average).

No MMO will ever be good for you. You're a friendless imbecile.

Good luck on finding a "more exciting game". Specially when it comes to sci-fi space type. Oh, and try on it harder, for it should have better "persona" than EVE.

Now, perhaps your issue deserves an introspective revision. You might find truth in facts. i.e.: EVE's learning curve you're unable to match, for sure.

On the other hand, EVE HQ is beautiful. You feel the effort that's been put on it and tho some see it as unaccurate, it's a well designed tool that allows a peek through EVE's windows whilst not playing.
EFT and co. is a geek's license plate, and like all geek's gizmos it's favoured for it's rawness.

CCP should hire this guy, include his app to call direct on the client, and present the best damn UI in the business.

Cheap CCP alternative: get a couple coders to work on it a few hours per week on the free thing, and keep a certified no-worms copy for download.

Shit he did it for free, how hard is it gonna be to get him to agree on it??

But I'll tell you something: giving 4/1 odds the news they're losing a major app hasn't gone above "forum gm" level. They're that oblivious.
