Noir. Damage Report: SAVE JITA
Goonswarm’s Burn Jita event may have been a pre-ordained success, but the Jita defenders organized under Noir. have enjoyed unsung success taking the edge off the invasion.
Day 1 Fight 1: Goons kicked things off with a massive undock of Tornadoes and Thrashers vomited forth from Jita 4-4. We were in Hornets/SBC and had been waiting for such an opportunity all night. With a few Moar Tears guys sitting at 0 with their neutral reps acting as a bullet sponge, we ripped their initial suicide ganking fleet apart, sending them back to station with many observers taunting them in local. They came back out in a Drake fleet with some scimitar and tornado/thrasher support. We briefly engaged but after scoring a quick kill or two it was apparent they had too much logi to kill anything of significance.
Day 1 Fight 2: Noticed a Vulture sitting on one of our warp out stations in Jita. I called engagement hoping he was an afk booster but his operator was paying attention and called in the Goon Drake fleet. I expected this and called align MWD but in hindsight should have called for a longer burn than i did. When Goons landed their tackle was around 40 from us, and despite our best efforts to down them the Goon Hero Scimitar team kept even the Rifters alive. Kitsune’s managed to jam most of the tackle off our shiny’s but we lost a Naga and Jared’s Tengu. TiDi was a factor.
Day 1 Fight 3: Moar Tears, having largely done their own thing w AD0PT for most of the day, finally decides to team up. They and some PRIVS guys will do an RRBS/Hellcat fleet on the undock, drawing fire from Drakes while we warp in at range. I had advised against it last night in our strategy meeting (but who listens to me anyway ;p ) Anyway TiDi is cripplingly high, with jita operating at 15-20% speed and Goon Drake/Tornado numbers are off the charts. The MT gang is holding its own, scoring some kills, however a number of expected defenders from other alliances (empire merc alliance Double Tap most notably) no-showed. TiDi and grid loading problems are limiting our time on field, as are a number of intercepters seemingly assigned to harass us. Predictably Goons kept warping more and more Tornadoes onto the field until the reps were not enough and the battle went from stalemate to complete route very quickly.
Day 2 Fight 1: I started my day by doing some diplo work with -A-, which had recently had their Goon/Test dec go live. A handful were camping the Jita gate in Perimeter along with our main fleet (props to newly minted FC’s Arrgasm and Sundarbolt for their ganking efforts: Engagement 1, Engagement 2 and Engagement 3) so it was pretty simple to get their FC in channel and get the fleets merged (this is where having a good relationship with your clients can pay off!).
We camped Perimeter for a while but the AAA pilots had talk of a bigger fleet later once US TZ FC Mukkbaravian logged in. Sure enough he comes on and within a half hour -A- have matched out shield fleet’s size with armor tanked Oracles (known apparently as Banana Boats) bringing our total number to 50.
Mukk wanted to FC initially but after revealing he and most of -A- did not have a war-targets-only overview, I was kinda forced into commanding at the last second. We jumped, failed to load grid, relogged, and then setup at the sun. And by commanding, i mean we warped in at 50 to the undock to face a 75ish CFC contingent and i right click broadcasted Tornadoes and Thrashers at random till we won. Big props to our Scimi + Guardian crew for keeping everyone up. After loosing a f*ckton of ships, Goons broke and either warped off or docked. Once the field was clear of targets I warped us out of system to let Goon repopulate. Given the split logi of the fleet and all the problems we had with overviews and jumping into Jita, we had no right to do as well as we did.
Day 2 Fight 2: Repopulate they did, but with slightly lower overall numbers now. Getting an accurate count in Jita was freaking impossible but our scout guessed they were only slightly larger than us now. This time we came in from the Niyabainen side which landed us about 60km off their undock fleet. The fleets traded a few shots with us downing a few thinly tanked BC/thrashers/frigs but the Goons decided to warp off. Fearing a warp in, we were gunning our MWDs, changing align points, and furiously primarying any newly arrived war target within 30km. The Goons came back onto field at the undock and immediately warped to a can off the undock. I debated the right course of action here, but ultimately decided to warp my Tengu to one of MoarTears’ alts which had warped to the can at close range and get the fleet to follow me. Goons booked it to a second can, with only a handful of stragglers getting caught.
At this point we warped off to a gate, planning to collect ourselves as before. But this time the Goons followed us. However there might have been some miscommunication on their end because it seemed like not everyone showed up. They landed with approximately 50 mixed BC/destroyers at 100km, their diminished numbers on top of our previous successes made me feel very frisky. I ordered everyone to charge right at them and tacklers to acquire points. I PROBABLY should have clarified that our Kitsune’s keep transversal up, but I didn’t so they died. We also lost a NMG. Tornado to the awesome alpha of the Goon fleet, but again we killed much more than we lost and forced them off the field. As an aside, EN24 editor Bagehi narrowly escaped death after he landed just as his fleet got done warping off, but luckily for him our tacklers were all over another Goon that had done that a few seconds before and didn’t switch over fast enough.
Day 2 Fight 3: We resumed camping Perimeter prior to our final fight of the evening. Chasing an Osprey through the gate along with our tacklers, Moar Tear’s member Detria jumped his Proteus just as a patrol of Goons happened to land. There may have been some problem with TiDi affecting (or rather not affecting) his gate cloak but regardless he was dead before he loaded. After a while of staring at one another Goons piled some more numbers in and jumped through the gate, engaging us for a third time. We traded blows with the Noir./-A-/Save Jita forces coming out on top but realizing we could not hold that advantage for long as the Tornadoes were closing to a favorable range for EMP. Rather than risk point blank alpha strike, we warped the fleet off before our heavy ships got tackled and called it a night.
Apparently one of our least lucky Noir. Academy guys got his Tengu caught an hour after the fleet disbanded, which dropped our efficiency from 89% to 85%. C’est la vie.
-Goon Scimi squads
-New FC’s stepping up in Noir. during such a huge event is always cool to see
-I got to FC a 50 man fleet, can’t remember the last time I had to do that. I didn’t get everyone killed either!
-I underestimated the skill of the Goon Scimi pilots at supporting their tackler frigates, which cost us a Tengu.
-Moar Tears got hit with some hard losses and hard lessons.
-TiDi was crushing for some of those Day 1 fights.
-TiDi takes a LOT of getting used to
-Goonswarm’s fleets are not unbeatable, even for “pubbies”. But it’s still super f*cking hard lol.
-Despite all our efforts the suicide ganking campaign only stopped for the fights; as soon as we withdrew Goons were right back to work. This is pretty much exactly what the Save Jita guys expected to be the case but still, you gotta admire that tenacity when you see it in action.

Since we don’t want to flood the front page with more burn jita articles than we already have, am adding these wonderful videos to this article, which seems fitting since they also cover the last 2 days.
