Wilhelm Arcturus, he’s played internet spaceship related games since the early days of MegaWars III, and expects to get the hang of things any day now. He reports on EVE from an individual capsuleer’s point of view at TAGN.

TAGN: Raiden Aims at Foot, Shoots Self in Groin

2012 hasn’t been a good year for Raiden.

Raiden is a null sec alliance with whom the CFC has been at war for most of my time in 0.0 space, and that conflict has not gone well for them.

There was the start of the war in the north, where they were teamed up with White Noise, an alliance that fell apart and which has since disappeared from the sovereignty maps.

There was the back and forth grind of the post “White Noise collapse” time frame, where Razor managed to encroach on Tenal, grabbing a few systems.

Then there was the FanFest war, in which they were driven out of Tenal completely.

And then, just last week, after resetting their standings with Ev0ke for cutting a non-agression pact on mining operations with the CFC (part of the Venal war), managed to lose ~130 billion ISK in capital ships to a combined CFC, Ev0ke, and Brick sQuaD operation in the Geminate region.

Normally I would let things go at that. The above were operations in which I and my corp/alliance were involved, things I would normally report on at the level at which I saw them.

But since then we no longer share a border with Raiden and are not actively pursuing them in any way. To me, now, they are just another alliance in null sec.

Only they seem to have made such a phenomenal mistake yesterday that I am going to post about it just as sort of a very early “where are they now?” type of post, so later, when I wonder what happened to our former foe Raiden, I will have the information to hand.

More after the cut, which has some long quotes and a few maps and pictures.

So on to Raiden.

Somebody noticed yesterday, when looking at DOTLAN Maps, that Raiden had rather suddenly lost most of its sovereignty.

It is actually kind of hard to miss, as there is a little sovereignty change ticker in the side bar of the front page, and suddenly Raiden was back at the top of the list.

So there were some questions being asked. Early speculation that I saw was that they had somehow forgotten to pay their sovereignty bills, something that happened to Goonswarm at one point when a past leader went on vacation without ensuring that there was enough ISK in the right wallet to pay the bills.

The truth, it turns out, was even better… or worse… depending on how you look at it.

EVE News 24 put up a quick update about Raiden losing sovereignty, but had no real details. But in the comments, somebody posted the directorbot Jabber update that explained what really happened.

I have reproduced it below, with the sole change being that I removed the Jabber client IDs that get appended to each name, as they are long and distract from the text. The original is in the comments at EVE News 24 if they are important to you.

The conversation is between The Mittani and Vince Draken, leader of the Northern Coalition alliance who, at one point, was aiding Raiden.

(9:11:01 AM) directorbot: A leak of our high-level diplomacy IN ACTION, straight out of jabberlon5:

(6:10:03 PM) vince_draken: lol

*** This was a broadcast from the_mittani to all-all, replies are not monitored ***

This was followed up by a direct message to all on the directorbot channel (and I have to set up Jabber so it is on at all times recording these announcements, I miss too many gems while I am at the office.).

(9:15:42 AM) directorbot: My people, I would normally never believe such a tale, because it would require a kind of incompetence breathtaking in its comprehensiveness and attention to detail – yet after RDNdot reset Ev0ke, their most disciplined ally and one of our strongest foes, I’ll believe anything. If tomorrow you told me that RDNdot de-towered all their techs because of a sudden obsession with Thulium, I’d buy it.

*** This was a broadcast from the_mittani to all-all, replies are not monitored ***

So, to sum things up:

In a null sec alliance, once corp gets designated to hold the sovereignty. In the case of Raiden, that responsibility had recently passed to The Ankou.

Raiden leadership then got in some sort of fight with The Ankou and kicked them from the alliance, causing the alliance to lose all the sovereignty held by The Ankou.

And then hilarity ensued. The map went from this:

Raiden sov, pre-kick

To this:

Raiden sov, 24 hours later

Meanwhile, there were 29 systems in null sec space without a sovereignty claim. I initially heard that Northern Coalition was going to snatch up a bunch of them.

But at the moment, if you look at the map, it seems that an alliance called Rolling Thunder has laid a claim to the lions share of the systems. I do not know who they are, if they are helping Raiden, helping Norther Coalition, or helping themselves. But I am sure we will find out soon.

Such is life in null sec.

Sovereignty maps from the usual source, cropped by me.

Rolling Thunder DOT was RaidenDOTs renter alliance, which is also held by the Ankou. I am unsure if this corp, the one that holds all the sov, will also join NCDOT or they will keep it as a renter alliance.

I don't see Rolling Thunder keeping those systems (Mainly because Ankou will probably be going to NCDOT).

However, since I live in the region, here is my on the spot analysis, based on my study of whats going on at the moment:

Vale and Geminate will be likely be controlled by NCDOT. More than likely Raiden's current rental agreements, at least for the most part, will remain unchanged. The systems that are currently neutral will be seeded to NCDOT, possibly Evoke. F0rceful Entry may expand space holdings. Rolling Thunder/Giantsbane will have to heel to NCDOT or they might get touched in their naughty bits at night.

Not a bad analysis… I would like to finish it with what will happen shortly afterwards in the area… NCDOT will try its best to form a stable coalition with what is left in the area. Which will take time. Then once the CFC is done getting settled from the last conquest in Tenal… they will push into Tribute, then Vale of the Silent and shortly afterward… Geminate. I don't think there will be much of a fight.. but you can rest assured knowing that plenty of posts will contain anti-Goon statements in great abundance on this site.

Once the CFC has retaken all of former NC space… I would think they should take a new name for their coalition. Maybe they will adopt the old "Northern Coalition" title. It would be fitting considering that their coalition is filled with most of the surviving alliances from the NC and would be occupying the entire north.

Yea NC. just reset everyone except PL and Evoke, so idk where you are getting this idea of us forming some "coalition". We are here to pew pew not blue up EvE. *disappointed sad face at the NIP*

And the cfc most likely will not be invading our space, yes they have the numbers to take out just about anyone, but as the last week in the tech conflict saw, unless they are defending their own stuff, their resolve is shit. Their fleets were dwindling in size and Nc. n friends were having thier way w/ them.

Hmmm… you have some good points… I would have to say that I agree with what you have said… but… given enough time… the CFC can overwhelm with their numbers. Especially when they have only a few enemies to deal with. Now that Raiden is seriously weakened and PL is running a muck in Delve… the next conflict between the CFC and NCdot and friends could prove to be very different.

Rolling Thunder is the (former) renter alliance of Raiden. and is (and has always been) under the control of The Ankou. Raiden directors are wholly responsible for their loss of sovereignty, The Ankou are entirely responsible for reclaiming it. Lesson here – think before you rage, and never fuck with an englishman.

ROLN was Raiden's Renter Alliance, formed for purpose and always under control Ankou (as Ankou directors were ones who come up with the idea of renting space).

Ankou decided leave RaidenDot for a less fucked more active alliance with more than just EUROTZ presance and even planned to leave most of the Vale constellations to Raiden. Raiden leadership got wind of Ankou leaving (on the heels of loss of x13) with some other corps to new alliance brilliant leader Kicked Valhalla Holding (Ankou's holding corp) and removed roles for Ankou leadership, not realizing Valhalla holding had Vale. Thus the Ankou is able to join new alliance with nice gift called vale.

    Please excuse english.

Get your facts straight… Ankou 'left' because our directors/fcs were locked out of comms and forums as soon as the rest of RDN leadership was told of our intentions, those being an orderly exit in one weeks time. No sov flipping occurred prior to this lockout and emorage.

Face the facts, your leadership have fucked up on multiple levels in the last few days and no matter how you spin it, RDN leadership is responsible for your loss of sov. BTW, have they told you about the 700 BILLION in tech that x13 stole on their exit? No? Wallets dry boys… the whole reason Ankou wasn't going to hang around another minute..

No sir! We are not bot, atleast not all of us. Its true that there are many bots in the RT systems (and im sure that raiden would like to have bot only renters) but its not all of us. We even offered our small capital fleet to fight side by side with raiden. but they always refused so i guess they take what they deserve.
The sad thing is that either way Vale will not have a proper renting system for a long time unless NC. wants to fix that but i dont see why would they if they can get 1 bil for a -0.1 system, 2 bil for a -0.2 system and so on.
So concluding Vale is shit to rent but still better than nothing and i hope that NC. will either fix it or they will lose controll of it and someone who knows how to do bussiness will take over this shithole.

Pretty sure that won't work any better than it did when the goons disbanded BoB in the first place.

Raiden was formed by gutless cowards who left there fellow IT members to burn in delve with no support from the supers they spent building over the past year. All i can say is KARMA is bitch and you deserve to DIAF

it was a nice trip, a lot of fun and many many goodfights, it is a shame tho` it had to end this way…i just hope one day we`ll meet again and stick it to the goons the hard way!

  32. Who are Goonswarm?

I was with Raiden. when they were IT. They were fail then and they are fail now. For the record though the Delve fall was planned by IT/Raiden months before it happened, They had the majority of their shit out of Delve and in Solar territory a long time beforehand.

Guys, you are missing a big point: Legion of Death..!! Blue with CFC now… They will most likely to move into Vale. NCdot will be crushed, with CFC attacking them on their west border while Legion of Death (and probably Evoke too) will attack on the east border.

And you're missing the point, that Evoke is very blue with NCdot
