Ten days ago, I was sent the following leak, I fell Ill (hence the lack of battle reports) and I wasn’t able to post until past Wednesday.

Drakes seems to be a mainstay on current large fleet engagements, regularly engaging battleship class fleet at times even outnumbered by their battlefield counterparts. For GoonSwarm Federation the doctrine change comes as a solution to several logistical issues. For starters Drakes are comparably cheaper, the GSF has blamed Raiden. market gurus on cornering the Maelstrom market in several key trade hubs. Also the fact that a jump freighter carries 21 Drakes vs 6.5 Maelstroms comes as a logical solution for logistic stricken officers.

Gentlegoons, for the first time in More Than A Fucking Year, we have a new main-line fleet doctrine. It has come to my attention that while it’s all well and good to have an Alphafleet, having 3-4 Alphafleets tends to just result in a bunch of Maelstroms dying, and doesn’t add any tactical flexibility. We are reintroducing the old Drakefleet (our pre-alphafleet doctrine) as something for the 2nd and 3rd fleets, as well as something fun for babby fcs to toodle around with when we’re not on major ops.

LINKAGE

TLDR: Mainfleet will now be tight-comp Alphafleet, Nigfleets will be perma-MWding Drake Blobs which can drop on a tackled Alphafleet at 0 and own bones.

All this has happened before and will happen again

DrakeFleet: What is old is new again

Some of you may remember a dark time, after the fall of Fortress Delve, when Goonswarm was a nomadic alliance (again), living in Syndicate (again), and poor as shit (again). In those fell days, we saw a light in the west, and it was the Drake, and lo it nurtured us, protected us, and brought us to Motherland Deklein. When the time came, we shifted our doctrine to AlphaFleet which we use to this day, effectively negating enemy logistics ability and giving us that “one shot, one kill” slogan that every fat neckbeard who secretly wishes he could join the U.S. Army likes to mumble to himself as he mashes the F1 key with his fat greasy fingers.

The issue now is that we have an interesting dilemma where we have too many maelstroms. Our coalition can put together four full fleets on major operations. Friends, I hate to admit we have a problem with too many maelstroms, but there it is. For a lot of our objectives, we really only need one AlphaFleet. The other three fleets could be ~whatever~, but what ~whatever~ should we use? As Americans, we have a long history that dates back to the Manhattan Project of blatantly stealing German engineering and re purposing it for the cause of Freedom. Drakes are back baby, and I expect our Nazi friends are going to get hella pissy about it. Actually, I expect Raiden. and Init. and PL will be pissy about it too, because fucking nobody likes to fight drakes.

In the biggest change to our doctrine since the move to AlphaFleet, the following ships have had their fittings modified:

T1 “Newbee” Drake:
Spoiler

7 limos launchers
mwd, 2 invul II, 2 lse, mag scattering amp II
2x bcu II, cprII
2x ccc, cdfe

T2 “Pr0″ Drake:

7 hml II
mwd, 2 invul II, 2 lse, mag scattering amp II
2x bcu II, cprII
2x ccc, cdfe

Sacrificing a little bit of EHP for maneuverability, these marvels of German engineering are cap-stable while permarunning a microwarpdrive. To keep up with these drakes, the following ships have had their fittings modified to be more cap-friendly and able to keep up with a drake blob microwarpdriving all over the place. Also, one thing to note. These drakes are actually cheaper than our old drakes. So if you don’t want to wait for the supply chain to catch up, go buy the old drakes still on contract and refit them. Given the cheaper price on the new fit and the reimbursement bump I’m giving drakes, you’ll still come out ahead!

It is absolutely essential that you have several of these ships fitted and ready to go in VFK. They can be called up at ANYTIME, and you’ll never know when Mainfleet is already full, so you’ll be riding bitch in DrakeFleet.

In almost all cases, the FC & Reimbursement teams have made the decision to sacrifice some EHP for added maneuverability and capacitor. The intent is for a ball of drakes to get up in someone’s grill while AlphaFleet takes care of business from range.

Tornado: A more funner fit
Some of you may have been with Mister Vee when he took Tornados out to do a thing Sunday morning. That thing resulted in a drive-by dead Nidhoggur and about 500 pissed off Raidendot and Raidendot pets. I had enough fun on the op that I want to make sure you guys get reimbursed a little bit extra for fun ops like that. To accomplish this, the DBRB Tornado fit has been replaced with the Sniper Tornado from Sunday’s op.

Peacetime Drakes: Weapons Free
Effective immediately, there is no longer a specified fit for Drakes on peacetime operations. Fly whatever you want, die horribly, who cares it’s a drake!

Reimbursement Payouts: More micromanaging ITT
Funny story. Raidendot has been frantically attempting to find ways to kill our supply lines through hilariously bad market moves. But we have an Aryth, and Aryth is not to be trifled with. He’s skillfully avoided every clumsy Raidendot market manipulation while chortling gleefully at how bad Raidendot is at it. In fact, Raidendot has lost their shirt several times when the empire pubbies flood items in question back on the market. Anyway, the ultimate result is that prices on some of our warships have actually fallen. Thanks Raidendot brosefs!

“Pr0″ Drake (T2): 55mil (+10mil)
Fleet Scimitar: 165mil (-10mil)
Cloaking Sabre: 70mil (-5mil)
Nubfleet Maelstrom: 160mil (-5mil)
Blackbird: 15mil (+5mil)
All hictors: -10mil

As always, you can see how much I’m overpaying you to lose ships compared to jita prices by checking out this google doc:

BROKEN LINK

And remember, my reimbursement amounts ALWAYS ASSUME PLATINUM INSURANCE

Reimbursement Character: Power Overwhelming!
The Reimbursement Character, found on our wiki here: https://wiki.goonfle…ement_character is used as a kind of rough “what skills should I have” guide when determining what is important in fitting ships. In discussion with FCs and theorycrafting how to adapt to Drakefleet, it became very obvious that Reimbursment Character needed to harden the fuck up.

The following skills have been changed to Level V on the Reimbursement Character:
Energy Systems Operation V
Energy Management V
Shield Upgrades V
Shield Emission Systems V
Logistics V

Does this mean I’m going to deny you if you don’t have these skills trained? No. It just means that if you do NOT have these skills, you may find it very difficult to fit and fly some of the ships we are using now.

And there you have it friends. Two reimbursement posts in one month, new shinies to play with, more enemies to slap around. Spend this time getting ships moved up from jita and fitted, so that this weekend, when FCs call for DrakeFleet, you will be ready to answer the call. The old drake, huginn, lachesis, and huginn fits will still be reimbursed through February if you fly it in AlphaFleet, but if I can figure out that you lost that ship while sitting in a DrakeFleet, you will get nothing. The way these two fleets operate is vastly different, and the old Alphafleet fits will be empty of cap in next to nothing, so do us both a favor and don’t take them on DrakeFleet ops.

So far the Drakes are almost hitting 40 million in Jita, a price trend which am sure will keep going up.

What i wouldn't give to see if this change up is isk related and not trying to find victory related. Im sure its a bit of both, but goon SRP has to be bleeding a large amount of isk after these last few weeks.

If you are trying to say that raiden/nc. don't reimburse their fleets and throw it all into supers you are sorely mistaken. One of the main differences is they lose a lot less ships then goons so less reimbursement.

I know -A- uses drake spam, Goons used to (and now are again), Stainwagon uses Drake spam. I can see why, much cheaper, and WAY cheaper to reimburse. Maels were costing them a fortune, especially when they lose them by the hundreds.

confirming this is actually because goons can't keep reimbursing all these maelstrom deaths.

I love how my drakes now go for 35 mil average. Also, Drake price hike = trit price hike?

    February 11, 2012 at 8:48 am Reply
    1. that's correct, the trit price hike comes from the cease of activities in the drone lands. Am told 30% of all eve's minerals come from alloys. not hard to believe.

They still will, there's a fair number of miners out there slogging away. With the unmentioned boost to hidden belt value, it should all balance out. There's still no replacement for the plush tritanium compression though… I guess highsec miners are going to be fighting over veldspar soon.

I heard abot 60% of all minerals come from the dronelands. All of them. Not just Oasa or Cobalt or The Spire. All of them together. It's a widespread number repeated over and over in leadership and alliance meetings. I have a hard time believing it, but damn, they build stuff alright.! And bot a fuckton…
