Jester’s Trek: Plans for the weekend
If you don’t follow incursion news in EVE, you might not be aware of this, but CSM alternate Darius III and the rest of BricK sQuAD. have made it their mission lately to close high-sec incursions as quickly as the mom spawns. There’s currently a 27-page threadnaught about it on the EVE Online forums… in the Crime and Punishment section, naturally.
Since my own connection to the incursion community is known, I haven’t covered this to avoid the appearance of bias. It’s tempting, for instance, to rack this up as yet another veteran EVE player interdiction of new-player resources, except obviously with incursions it’s nowhere near that simple since a lot of PvP vets like myself also participate in them. It’s equally tempting to rack this up as sour grapes on Darius’s part, but it’s not that simple either since Darius could hardly do this on his own.
So, I’m going to limit my coverage of the issue to this: whether you want to call this an interdiction or not, it’s certainly been effective! For the last couple of weeks, incursion bears have been very hard-pressed to find sites or build up any momentum. As soon as they get settled into a new incursion, a fleet comes along and “prematurely” kills the mom, sending the “caravan of the heavens” on its way again. There have been a few patches where an incursion has lasted a day or two past the “Mobilizing” phase, but not many!
And the issue seems to be coming to a head this weekend.
Twenty hours ago as I write this, there were three high-sec Incursions. Right now, just as the weekend kicks off in Europe, there are zero. Call this the picture of the week:
The rage in the public incursion channels is fairly epic. I think it’s just possible that someone might do something rash.

If Darius III runs for CSM7, he has my vote simply for this endeavour. (That, and Goons framed him up for the CSM debacle in mid-2011.)

Confirming cloaks protect ships of all shapes and sizes from being blown to smithereens, at all times.

It is, in particular, safe to sit on gates in nullsec with a cloak equipped.
And remember, just because you can see your ship doesn't mean anyone else can. Thats what we in nullsec call an 'overview bug' and they happen all the time.

This is a perfect example of what CCP likes players to do most:
They put the tools at the players disposal and allow them to create the content. These people believe that the incursions make too much money, people have been whining for a nerf.
This shows that in this instance, a nerf isn't needed, if you think that the incursion makes too much money, you can do something about it, by closing it down early. I'd say its a sweet example of an natural forces at work, and I doubt CCP will do anything about it.
thats a little bit like saying interdiction of ALL asteroid fields in high sec would be player content.
Incursions are stupid, but the argument is flawed. It'sa game, but it can still be ruined by the players too.
Nothing is a sandox when a schmuck behind a computer in europe changes things regulary, beyond (despite what mitrani tells everyone) player control. It's all illusory freedom.
the way I see it eventually they will stop running or go elsewhere.. not all of them but enough of them. When that happens Darius and his failure of an alliance (brick squad: not fail for doing this but fail in general) will have to either choose to become the carebears and move the influence bar by running sites so that they can kill the mom or they will have to abandon it and go do something else. When that happens people will flood incursions again until the next time they get owned.
With a simple and very famous word: "Sandbox"
