If you missed it, we posted a link to Clarion Call 3, a Rooks and Kings video, two weeks ago. We recently were contacted by RnK’s primary antagonist, Aperture Harmonics. They asked that their side of the story be provided. Copy-pasted for your reading pleasure, the other side of the story:
The taste of the unknown… is a heady mixture of excitement, anticipation and fear. Seafaring explorers of old knew this taste well and were drawn by it time after time as they sought the next horizon or unexplored shore. Once this mixture crosses your lips, rarely will anything else satisfy.
Aperture Harmonics lives to explore and overcome the unknown. The vast reaches of wormhole space in Eve Online span 2,500 systems with connections that shift like sand in the desert every 24 hours. In contrast to the well known territories of null sec, wormhole space is a new map every day.
PvP in this environment is our great passion. The mass limitations on wormholes add an unparalleled dimension to PvP logistics encouraging small/medium gang PvP instead of “blob” warfare. Although anyone who has been on the receiving end of an AHARM invasion fleet may contest that statement, those projects are usually the result of weeks if not months of detailed planning.
There is an excellent video dramatization of these two elements (Wormholes and PvP) currently available on YouTube by Rooks and Kings. If you have not seen it yet, stop reading this and go watch it. It’s good enough for CCP to make it front page news.
Clarion Call 3 (Definitely worth watching in high def)
After watching it some may wonder what Aperture Harmonics thinks of it. If you’re reading this you probably do as you found your way to our blog.
Speaking as a single member only I can say that the general response I’ve seen is that we loved it – many of us watching it several times. It is a dramatization of real events and highlights Rooks and Kings excellent movie making capabilities. One of the earlier Clarion Call videos over a year ago inspired me personally to train for a triage carrier. As with any dramatization of real events however – there is usually a gap between what is portrayed and what really happened. For example watch a war movie with a veteran that was there (if they will) or read the letters of one who was and see how much of a gap there is. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good movie, just a reminder that art imitates life but rarely does so perfectly. For the curious a few of these differences are as follows:
The conflict on 10/10/10 isn’t completely depicted in the video; the AHARM video of that conflict is available here as is the killboard . From our perspective, this confrontation was the “Gettysburg” of the attempted Rooks and Kings invasion into Nova. Remaining R&K forces were either killed or left of their own accord. AHARM then proceeded to launch a full-scale campaign to remove Rooks and Kings from Wormhole space (links below).
The Rooks and Kings incursion into Polaris was uncontested as AHARM was busy on a full scale eviction of another WH corp (Firebirds Squadron) at the time. As tempting as an invitation to a dogfight with Rooks and Kings was, it was a fairly straightforward command decision to decline. Allowing an opponent to dictate the terms of an engagement is the worst kind of strategic foolishness regardless of what others may say after-wards. In addition the video does not disclose that even with the Firebirds eviction going on all capital class / valuable ships were safely extracted from Polaris prior to its demise.
The conflicts here and here were not shown either due to time constraints or the fact that they place Rooks and Kings on the losing end. Nor were the many, many towers we destroyed as we hunted them relentlessly throughout Wormhole space.
Someone on the SciFi series “Babylon 5” once said there are three sides to every story… your side, their side and the truth. Having heard “our side” it’s up to the reader to decide where the truth lies. Or come to Nova and find out for yourself
