This is not EVE related but it’s linked to something that affected us all.

The 19-year-old is suspected of hacking into systems and mounting denial of service attacks against “a number of international businesses and intelligence agencies,” police said. Naming suspects who have been arrested in Britain is illegal.

Sony’s PlayStation Network went down on April 20 after what Sony said was a massive data breach. It had more than 70 million subscribers at the time.

It began coming back on line in mid-May. The PlayStation Store did not reopen until June 2.

The company estimated the cost of that attack will total $171 million.

Hackers later broke into Sony Pictures website, compromising the accounts of over 1 million users, and the gaming company SEGA, stealing nearly 1.3 million users’ details via a British subsidiary of the Japanese company. SEGA makes games for PlayStation and other gaming systems.

The guy who runs an ircd where the lulzsec channel is hosted got arrested. Poor guy, but it has actually nothing to do with lulzsec at all.

tbh attacking/hacking the UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca), was always gonna end up in some sort of police action, they're paranoid at the best of times, hacking the website actually gave them a legit (though looks like they got the wrong person again) target for once, instead of being guided by the Daily Riech…..sorry i mean Daily Mail.

Either way, if they butthurt anyone who deals with Lulzsec enough, the pool of people willing to facilitate such lameness will shrink. Then maybe they'll consider moving on to other rewarding activities in life like girls, sunshine, music or drugs.

I approve of entities trying to "stick it to the man" but DDOS'ing websites and stealing other people's information should be treated as such. Personally I wish the wild west would come back when you could just shoot people. It would solve a lot of problems, unfortunately some idiot proclaimed that all men are created equal, when in fact, they are not, and now we have to cherish every life as if it was a gift from God. Yes, I did just advocate for the mass-killings of idiots, asshats, douches and detrimental members of society. Don't like it? Join my cause and you could get a shot at me.

Stealing passwords and DDOSing entertainment sites = not popular.
Bringing down oil corps websites and hacking corrupt officials = popular.

Lulzsec needs to straighten it out a bit or they won't be popular.

I'm going to stick my neck out here…

The point of LulzSec as I see it is to a certain extent to poke fun at the developers of certain large scale organisations AND (more importantly, imo) in doing so raise important security questions about the content you put online. The releasing of peoples personal information I would suggest was more to publicly shame the developer and the companies (who probably paid him alot of money) involved than to harm the people who's information was released.

the DDOS-ing, well that is what it is and sometimes I agree with it most of the time I don't.

The sony hack specifically however was a simple SQL injection, and as such that developer probably deserves to be publicly shamed. It certainly raises questions in my mind about what information I will give sony in future and that at least is a good thing (i.e. GJ Lulzsec) that I would not have got if Lulzsec where white hat.

      anyway that's my two cents

its true that we are not created to be equals, cause it is impossible. but what they should have said was that we should treat each other equally. at least till we find out your an asshat.

I dont see why criminals posting on twitter should be able to cry freedom of speech.

        1. because it's a basic right, remember that twitter helped many guys in Egypt and the middle east, many of them branded as criminals by the authoritarian governments.

          Twitter is being neutral.

Yay, let's post our phonenumber on Twitter that redirects people to the FBI and tell everyone to call us. It'll be so much fun.
This has nothing to do with freedom of speech. How would you feel like if the al-qaida would brag about every dead american soldier on twitter? Harsh comparison, but all I'm saying is that Twitter shouldn't give criminals a medium to get their message to the people.

Not that I'm gonna click on any of their links but if they're using Twitter to distribute hacked account details as they claim, twitter should be considered partially responsible for their actions through being negligent. Imagine if thats your account details for stuff being passed round thousands of people? Dont think you'd be bitching about freedom of speech then.

It is called The Law. Companies like Twitter are selectively applying it, and that will influence business. They are becoming the long arm of the dominant nations as they only comply with the laws that can touch them.
        www.itproportal.com/2011/05/26/twitter-coo

Twitter will hand over the names to UK, if UK courts say they have to.

Freedom is speech has very little to do with anything here, just like it has little to do on this site.. Twitter can pull down any posting they want. They don't remove lulsec because they are most likely cooperating in investigation against them.

        From Twitter's own TOS

        "•Unlawful Use:
You may not use our service for any unlawful purposes or for promotion of illegal activities. International users agree to comply with all local laws regarding online conduct and acceptable content."

Lulz is in clear violation. Let's be clear, this type of script kiddy gets off purely on the promotion of their activities on social media.

(Freedom of speech is not a defense anyway. They are NOT expressing an opinion, which is what the inherent right of FOS actually means – they are using Twtitter to promote and gloat over criminal activity.)

Why are you getting butthurt over words? Looks like our government and others are doing everything in their power to hunt down Lulzsec, is it so important that Twitter violate its own free speech ethics to hop on the bandwagon?

reading such news always makes me feel very sad. for the most part because ppl choose to believe/support opinions instead of the truth (Plato had and intresting view about opinions and the truth…just saying). also when i see common ppl taking the side of corporations – the principal criminal entities of this world – makes me even more sad…
